Getting started is straightforward. A referral can be sent from a GP or other eligible medical practitioner, after which the clinic can assist with arranging an appointment.
New patients are asked to complete an intake form and any relevant assessment questionnaires before their first consultation so that appointment time can be used as effectively as possible.

Dr. Ty Drake understands that seeing a psychiatrist is not always easy, and that many people have already waited a long time before reaching an appointment.
To make the consultation as useful as possible, patients are sent relevant pre-appointment questionnaires and forms in advance. This helps Dr. Drake understand the key concerns beforehand and allows more of the appointment to be spent discussing what matters most.
Dr. Drake takes a transparent, collaborative and individualised approach to care. Patients are encouraged to ask questions, understand the reasoning behind treatment recommendations and take an active role in decisions about their care.
The aim is to work together on a practical treatment plan that reflects the individual’s symptoms, circumstances, preferences and goals.
-
An initial psychiatric consultation is usually approximately 60 minutes. The purpose of the first appointment is to understand the reason for referral, current symptoms, relevant developmental and psychiatric history, physical health, medications, family history and the impact of the difficulties on day-to-day life.
An initial formulation and treatment plan can usually be discussed during the appointment. For more complex assessments, additional appointments or information may be required before a final diagnosis or management plan can be established.
